Sharon's Wedding Dress Among Items Stolen from Debra Tate's Home!

Hello everyone,

Sorry it has been awhile. A lot has been going on in my personal life and I would like to apologize for not blogging more.

Please be aware that someone out there has stolen Sharon's wedding dress and mink stole from Debra Tate's home. If anyone has ANY information please let us know so I can pass this along to the Official Board, Debra and the police.

Debra would just like to get the items back. These items mean so much to her as you can understand why. Thank you in advance for any information you can deliver. Please no phony emails, only serious ones.

Apparently, Sharon was almost in a Mel Ferrer Movie entitled, "The Rock House." I looked up this film on the Internet Movie Database but it is not included in Ferrer's work, so I suppose it was never made for whatever reasons?

Sir Jackie Stewart, a Formula One Car Driver remembers Sharon and is looking forward to working with Roman Polanski on a new film:

Fugitive film director Roman Polanski’s next project will have an unlikely star, former Formula One driver Sir Jackie Stewart.

Sir Jackie, 71, has been a close friend of Polanski for nearly four decades and featured in his 1972 film, Weekend Of A Champion.

In the movie, Polanski filmed Stewart’s victory in the 1971 Monaco Grand Prix, the year he won the first of his three world championships.

Sir Jackie will feature in Polanski’s remake of the film to be shot later this month at the Monaco Grand Prix.

At this week’s Great Scot Awards in Boisedale restaurant in Canary Wharf, Sir Jackie, accompanied by his wife Helen, admits he is excited at the prospect of working with Polanski again.

‘He is a very old friend,’ Sir Jackie tells me. ‘I knew his first wife, Sharon Tate, really well and liked her. My son Mark is involved in film-making and I am flying out for the remake, which will focus on this year’s Grand Prix at Monaco.’

Actress Joan Collins was asked recently about some of the great weddings she has attended and she mentioned Sharon as being one of the best! (Thanks to Jimena for this link!) :

She says of the Polanski nuptials:

A fabulous Sixties wedding given at the louche venue that was the Playboy Club in London was that of Roman Polanski and Sharon Tate. All the women wore micro-mini dresses, patterned tights and enormous hair, while the men featured a variety of moustaches, long sideburns and flowered shirts.

But none of the women could hold a candle to the gorgeous bride. In a short, white minidress, with masses of flowers in her luxuriant blonde locks, she was the absolute picture of joy and happiness. It was a joyous wedding and we had great fun.

Tragically, too short a time later, I also attended her funeral, after a beautiful and pregnant Sharon was viciously murdered in their Hollywood home.

And speaking of weddings this week, I found a Sharon and Patricia Tate mention on a web site about the recent Royal Wedding of William and Kate. However, it is not the ones we are thinking of. Apparently, one network interviewed two people who just happened to have the same names. I still thought it was worth mentioning since it was so coincidental that the article mentions a Sharon Tate and that her mother's name is Patricia. Read here for fun:

Elizabeth Taylor died this week at age 79. I know she was jealous of Sharon when they filmed "The Sandpiper" and Sharon's scenes were even deleted supposedly by request from Taylor. Taylor was also worried that Richard Burton might spot Sharon and try to flirt, so she had people on the set keep Sharon at a distance from him.

Even though that may not make Taylor sound good, actually--if you really think about it--I think she was paying Sharon a high compliment. I mean Taylor still looked great, even though she might have felt insecure against the new starlet since Sharon was younger. However, both women to me were great beauties.

And you must remember that over the ensuing years, Taylor made friends with Debbie Reynolds. No one ever thought those two would get along ever but it happened. It makes me think that if Sharon had lived longer that she and Liz might have crossed paths again and just forgotten about the whole "Sandpiper" incident.

I think Liz was the type to forget and forgive and Sharon was certainly not the type to hold any grudges. So I personally would like to think these two could have ended up as friends. Unfortunately, since Sharon died so young, we will never know.

RIP Elizabeth Taylor.

Barbara Parkins of TV’s “Peyton Place” (1964), “Valley of the Dolls” (1968). If there is anybody who represents the zeitgeist of the 1960s, it’s Barbara Parkins. The ABC-TV prime time soap opera Peyton Place, which was on the air from 1964-1969, was a sensation (and where Mia Farrow and Ryan O’Neal made their debuts). Parkins followed that up with the infamous film Valley of the Dolls, and her friendship with co-star Sharon Tate resulted in her participating as maid of honor at the wedding between Tate and director Roman Polanski.

Since then, she has done mini-series in the 1970s, and even came back for a reprise role in the TV movie, “Peyton Place, The Next Generation” (1985).

HollywoodChicago.com: How difficult was the schedule for Peyton Place, which at its peak aired three times a week, and at what point was the schedule too much?

Barbara Parkins: From the very beginning. The reason I say that is when you do a series, you’re up at five in the morning, you finish at eight at night. You take off your make-up, you get some sort of meal, learn your lines and get ready to repeat it the next day. When we did three days a week we were on overload, and didn’t get paid for it.

HollywoodChicago.com: Since you participated in their wedding, how do you think the tragedy of Sharon Tate effected her husband Roman Polanski, and do you think the authorities should leave him be at this point?

Parkins: First, what Roman went through with his family during the Holocaust was horrific [his parents died in concentration camps], and equally horrific was what he went through when Sharon was murdered in such a devastating way. Obviously it had an impact on his life.

In regard to the present situation, I’m glad he didn’t come back here. It would have been a media circus and have gone on forever. Leave him alone now, he’s been through hell.

HollywoodChicago.com: Why were critics so cruel, in your opinion, when Valley of the Dolls was released, and do you feel vindicated that it has become a cult classic?

Parkins: I wasn’t even aware that the critics were mean towards the film. I was just enjoying the ride because it was my first big movie, and I loved it. In retrospect, it is a big corny, the costumes and dialogue were over the top, but there was some drama with the pills and the fame, so it’s longevity is extraordinary.

HollywoodChicago.com: Finally, what can you tell us about Sharon Tate that the rest of the world doesn’t know?

Parkins: Most people know that she was kind and sweet, and had an innocence about her. Her gentleness was very special, and it was a big loss.

Any movie fan that knows his salt recognizes that bit of dialogue, snarled out by Susan Hayward to Patty Duke in the movie version of Jacqueline Susann’s “Valley of the Dolls.” (Miss Duke retaliates by snatching off Hayward’s wig and … well, you know the rest.)

There was a short-lived TV series based on the movie … a porny kind of sequel (“Beyond the Valley of the Dolls”) … and “readings” of the script are always a sell-out in West Hollywood.

But the story of three girls looking for love in all the wrong show biz places is still grist for the mill, and now there’s talk that the smash hit TV series “Glee” will mount a “Valley of the Dolls” show next season! Before you say it — no, there’s not much good music associated with “VOTD,” with the possible exception of Andre and Dory Previn’s “Theme From The Valley of the Dolls” sung over the credits by Dionne Warwick. (More recently, it was done by k.d. lang, who made it sound like a masterpiece.) The other stuff, also by the Previns and John Williams, is dreadful. That includes “I’ll Plant My Own Tree” written for Judy Garland (who was fired from the film) and eventually sung by Margaret Whiting, with Miss Hayward lip-syncing. Patty Duke as train-wreck star Neely O’Hara is forced to sing hilariously bad material. (Sharon Tate and Barbara Parkins were blessedly mute, musically.)

But — so I hear — there will be “original” music added to the mix for “Glee,” which is intended as a “tribute and a spoof.” I wouldn’t count this idea out as merely campy wishful thinking. “Glee” is a Fox show, and “VOTD” was a 20th Century Fox smash. They still own the rights.

A nice girl sent me this lobby card she has from "Rosemary's Baby" showing the supposed 'girl in the red dress' that has been rumored to be Sharon since it was indicated on the Internet Movie Database some time ago. However, if you look closely you'll see this is not Sharon.

TITLE: SHARON TATE HAD A MISFORTUNE WITH HER MINI SKIRT

Paris is no luck for Sharon Tate and her young husband director Roman Polanski.

A few months ago in the Capitol of France, Polanski was attacked by a few

aggressors, and lost a tooth while he was walking with his wife by the river Seine.

Their last visit to Paris has invited some misfortunes again.

Young married couple had a bad quarrel in a restaurant.

Polanski must have gone too far, so that he left Sharon at a restaurant crying and she took the first taxi she met.

People who go around wearing mini skirts should behave properly all the time.

Someone who gets angry and loses control, may meet some unpleasant surprises.

This was the same for Sharon. She did not realize that she had bended too much while she was getting into

the taxi. She just saw the photographer after settling down and tried to smile.

Her smiling photo was on the newspapers of the day after, with the other two.

In the morning; seeing her "terrible" photos on the newspapers, should have affected the beautiful star's mood badly, so that she failed because of not paying attention to the last step of the stairs while she was leaving the hotel same day.

*Kind of an odd article but then again it looks like it came from a Turkish magazine and I don't think Turkey probably took to kind to people wearing mini skirts and such so maybe that is why they chastizied her for it. And also, if this was suppose to be the same day she 'cried' over Polanski, then why is she seen happy and smiling here? Just one more thing to add; I seriously doubt Sharon felt too terrible about these photos in the paper. Sharon was prone to wearing the shortest mini skirts and was not ashamed of the body. So... um, whatever, I suppose?

Sorry I have not been on lately and some news about the new Sharon biography

Sorry I have not been on lately. My girlfriend and I broke up and things have not been good lately.

Anyway, some news on Sharon... There is a new biography of her that was suppose to be released this month called Sharon Tate: The Life of a Victim. It is now pushed back to October 22, 2011 and has been changed to Sharon Tate: The Biography by Ed Sanders who wrote The Family.

I will try to be back soon but for awhile I will probably just do a once a week sort of thing. It is very hard to come up with something everyday, even though I enjoy searching for Sharon (don't get me wrong). So for the time being as things are, I think it would be better for a weekly sort of thing. Plus it would probably be easier for fans to keep up with so much on the internet these days.

Roman Polanski wins best European picture award

(AP) – Dec 4, 2010

TALLINN, Estonia (AP) — Roman Polanski's "The Ghost Writer," a story of a journalist hired to write the memoirs of a British prime minister, has won the prize for best film at the European Film Awards.

Polanski, who was awarded the Silver Bear for best director at the Berlin Film Festival, also took five other key prizes at the ceremony held in the Estonian capital, Tallinn, late Saturday.

Nominated in seven categories, the movie won the best director prize, best actor for Ewan McGregor, and best screenwriter went jointly to Robert Harris and Polanski.

"You have awarded a truly European venture. This is too much ... thank you very much," Polanski said in an acceptance speech through a Skype connection from an unknown location. "I wish to thank — before anything — this wonderful crew I had, a truly European crew."

It was not the first time that the Polish-born director has received recognition from the European Film Academy.

The 77-year-old Oscar winning director of movies like "Rosemary's Baby" and "Chinatown" was honored with a lifetime achievement award in 2006 in Warsaw, Poland.

In Tallinn, French composer Alexandre Desplat was awarded for best composer while his compatriot film editor Herve de Luze won the production designer prize for Polanski's movie, which was mainly shot in Germany.

"The Ghost Writer," about the memoirs of a politician, played by Pierce Brosnan, is loosely based on former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

Its production was a tangled tale for Polanski.

As he was finishing the movie in September 2009 Polanski was taken into custody at Zurich airport by Swiss police at the request of U.S. authorities to face prosecution in a 1977 child sex case. He had to finish editing the film while in Swiss prison before being released on house arrest.

In July, Polanski was freed after the Swiss government declined to deport him to the United States. But he still faces an Interpol warrant in 188 countries. Most European nations, including Estonia, have an extradition treaty with the United States.

McGregor, who played the ghostwriter, said he had a "fantastic time" while making the film.

"More than any other part I've played I feel like the director Roman Polanski had his hands really on my performance and is as worthy of this award as I am," McGregor told the audience through a video message from Thailand, where he is currently shooting a film.

Among other prizes at the academy's 23rd annual awards ceremony, Swiss actor Bruno Ganz was honored with a lifetime achievement prize handed out by German director Wim Wenders.

Ganz, 69, with a screen career that spans five decades with memorable performances in Wenders' "Wings of Desire" and "The American Friend," in which he costarred with Dennis Hopper. He is also remembered from his acclaimed performance as Adolf Hitler in the 2004 German drama "Downfall" that portrays the last days of the Third Reich.

French actress Juliette Binoche presented the European achievement in world cinema award to Lebanese composer and musician Gabriel Yared, who has written scores for "The English Patient" and "The Talented Mr. Ripley."

The prizes — the European equivalent of the U.S. Academy Awards — have been presented since 1988 by the European academy to celebrate the continent's film industry as a European counterweight to the Oscars.

HollywoodChicago.com: Although the early reviews and career expectations were compromised in your performance in “Valley of the Dolls,” you’ve come to terms with it magnificently.

Duke: I’ve had a lot of help. [laughs] When it came out it was a true disappointment, and I was a true disappointment to me. I was in some fairyland I guess, thinking we were telling an honest story on how people get addicted to success and substances. What a crock! [laughs] I was just mortified.

At any rate, about 10 years after it premiered, the gay community across the United States sort of took it up as their anthem. At first I was a little shocked that people would sit and laugh at stuff that I thought was so serious. But as the years have gone by they and it have brought me tremendous joy and an exchange of love with people that I wouldn’t have had if it wasn’t for that movie.

HollywoodChicago.com: Going back to the actual filming, did you trust that director Mark Robson was getting the truest take on the performances, or did you suspect that the ship was sinking?

Duke: I didn’t trust Mr. Robson and he has passed, so I will try and not speak ill of the dead. To say that we didn’t communicate, is a major understatement. Plus which, he pissed me off a great deal at the time. Instead of getting out of me the performance he thought he wanted, he got a battle.

Duke: You know, one would have to look toward the source, wouldn’t one? But so many other things came out it, including being friends with Sharon Tate. One of the true highlights of my life. And of course, later, one of my more painful experiences when she was murdered.

HollywoodChicago.com: Did a lot of Los Angeles think the party was over after that?

Duke: Everyone was beyond terrified. Right after, no one had known who had done this and why, certainly Sharon had never garnered any evil from anyone. Capone (Interviewer) : I had read somewhere that your relationship with Sharon Tate on the film, that she was really the first person to teach you about wearing makeup and doing your hair.

PD: Oh God! First of all she was as much an angel on the inside as she was on the outside, and people like to think of beautiful people like that, especially blondes, as if they are airheads. There was nothing airhead about this lady. At any rate, we had fun. She taught me how to make up my eyes. She wore this pencil thing over her lid and she perfected it and she taught it to me. Unfortunately I didn’t have her lids.

Capone: I think people don’t give her enough credit as an actor either, because her talent was often kind of lost behind this pretty face.

PD: Exactly, yeah. You are so stunned by that kind of beauty, that you often don’t look past it, and I actually thought of all of us, she did the best acting job in the movie, because she never went over the top. She couldn’t have, because I was taking up all of that space.
